She's somewhat of a national treasure in the UK.

But it looks like Mary Berry's British fans may have to get ready to share the star following claims that the Great British Bake Off judge is off to appear in an American version of the hit show.

According to The Sun, the 80-year-old baking legend has teamed up with network ABC to begin filming a new version of the show which will still be based in Britain, but will only feature contestants from the States.

In demand! Mary Berry's British fans may have to get ready to share the star following claims that the Great British Bake Off judge is off to appear in an American version of the hit show

'Hollywood is so obsessed with age so it's a massive achievement for Mary that a big broadcaster wants to take a chance on her at 80,' a source told the publication's Dan Wootton.

This isn't the first time that the Disney-owned broadcaster has attempted to mimic the baking show, as they previously launched The American Baking Competition with the GBBO's very-own Paul Hollywood.

But it seems Paul's edition didn't quite live up to expectations as the show failed to take off, though it's believed his co-host could turn that around.

Sorry, Paul! ABC attempted to mimic the baking show, as they previously launched The American Baking Competition with the GBBO's very-own Paul Hollywood though it flopped

'Bosses at ABC believe Mary is the secret ingredient that the first US version of the show was missing,'  the insider dished.

'They're about to start over here and there has even been talk about using the same marquee for filming. It doesn't look like Paul is involved this time.'

ABC has a history of making British shows hits across the pond as they also launched the ever-popular Dancing With the Stars, which is based on BBC favourite Strictly Come Dancing.

MailOnline has contacted Mary's rep for comment.

While Paul may not be in the line-up for the American edition, it's not known if Bake Off's hosting duo Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc will also front the show.

Like Hollywood, Mary has fronted the Bake Off since it began in 2012.
