Owners of the winning restaurants of The Daily Star Foodiez Choice Awards 2015 with guests during the awarding ceremony at International Convention City Bashundhara in the capital last evening.
Forty-eight restaurants in Dhaka city were awarded The Daily Star Foodiez Choice Awards 2015 under 16 categories of cuisine yesterday.
They were chosen through a year-long popular online voting.
Dhaka Foodies in partnership with The Daily Star, Coca Cola, Microsoft, and Samsung Electronics organised a restaurant week from May 28 last year that continued till June 4 for the food lovers.
All restaurant platters are priced at Tk 499, Tk 999, and Tk 1,499 including VAT, said a press release issued by the organisers.
Dhaka Foodies founder Ashiqur Rahman said 1.55 lakh voters took part in ranking and chose the winners from a total of 748 restaurants.
Consumer choice drives this industry, Shadab Ahmed Khan, managing director of Coca Cola Bangladesh, told the award ceremony at International Convention City Bashundhara in the capital.
Shiblee Shakik Ahmed, head of marketing of Microsoft mobile devices, said Dhaka Foodies provided a strong platform to bring the restaurants and the food lovers.
People's food tastes are changing in Bangladesh, a country grown up and modern enough to try other cuisines, and all these are signs that Bangladesh is making progress, said The Daily Star Editor and Publisher Mahfuz Anam.
The winners were selected based on the ratings and reviews done by Dhaka Foodiez last year.
The voting timeline was from January 1, 2015 to February 7, 2016 for restaurants and from December 8, 2015 to February 7, 2016 for foodies and personalities.
